ROOMS THAT INSPIRE

Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend; the weather was unseasonably warm, which was nice.  We attended a funeral, which is always difficult to get through.  I can't begin to tell you how emotional of a day it was.  But, I did enjoy spending time with loved ones and catching up. It makes me really think about the important things; what matters the most in life.

As I try to get back into the groove of things, take a look at today's post on Rooms that Inspire.  I really enjoy looking at room designs, where corner spaces get utilized to the fullest.  If you're looking at some empty corner spaces in your home and unsure how to decorate it, take a look at these inspiration pictures to give you ideas.

FRIDAY . . . But Not a Happy One

Image via Ophra.com

Hello!  I hope everyone had a good week.  I received some upsetting news earlier this week.  A loved one has passed away and he will be missed.  We will be heading to South Jersey this weekend to attend the funeral services and burial.  Today, will be the first evening of his wake.

My dear friend Millie, who is like family to me, lost her father, Robert Grote.  Although he was sick; in pain and suffering, losing a loved one is never an easy thing.  He was a great man; soft spoken with a sweet smile; funny and crazy!  One memory I have of  "Bobby"; he always walked around the house with his hand held radio; he loved that radio.  He also loved his family and they love him.

And, while I'm looking forward to seeing my other "family" and goddaughter, I hate that it's under these conditions.  Which got me thinking . . . we get so wrapped up in our day to day lives, weeks, months and years go by before spending any time with the people we care about.  We make excuses for making the trip . . . whatever they may be.  Why (Jo Ann)?

We all know, at some point in our lives, it will be out time to go.  For some, it's sooner than later; expected or sudden.  Some have experienced death and "saw the light" but came back.  Some are afraid of the unexpected and some embrace it.  Where we go, we all have our beliefs.  But, that discussion is too deep; even for me.

Here's an article I read on Ophra.com, entitled, "5 Things the Dying Want Us to Know".

Do you remember that movie, "Ghost"? I always think about that movie (with Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg).  I think there is some truth to that movie (or so I believe).

Life is mystery to be lived . . .

WARDROBE WEDNESDAY: My Look from Anthropologie

Happy Hump Day!  Today's look on Wardrobe Wednesday is a look I put together from one of my favorite stores, Anthropologie.   Mixing the color navy with lighter shades of blue and pairing with nude tones is a look I love.  I played with pinstripes in vertical and horizontal patterns from the pants to the long cardigan.

The weather has been very pleasant on the east coast; with cool temperatures in the morning and warmer afternoons.  Women aren't putting away their sandals just yet.

Enjoy!

Details on today's look:

Chambray Racerbank Tank
Flipstone Pendant Necklace (in white; available in other colors)
Eclipsed Stripe Cardigan
Pinto Basin Clutch
Bonnie Lace up Shooties

SNEAKERS RULE: Designer Trends

Are you a sneaker person?  Personally, if I'm not in heels at work, I'm wearing ballet flats or smoking slippers to go with my work attire.  I should be wearing sneakers for supporting my back but it's not very fashionable (lol).  I travel to and from New York (from New Jersey) daily; constantly on a schedule; running to catch my bus and train; running through Port Authority, etc.

Well, designers have thought about us fashionable girls!  I spend money on expensive pairs of shoes, that are not as comfortable as a pair of sneakers.  But, I would hesitate when it comes to spending the same on designer sneakers (hence, not really a sneaker person).  I would really have to love them and they couldn't be trendy.  But, if I had a money tree, there are a couple I would definitely grab (lol).

Here are some designer sneakers available at Saks:

1//   Tod's - Suede Lace-up (wish list but need to go on sale!)
2//  Valentino - Mixed Media Camouflage
3//  UGG Australia - Suede and Shearling Lace-Up
4//  Tory Burch - Delancey Graphic-Print
5//  Vince - Nyack Suede & Fur High-Top (these are cute; look comfy and warm)
6//  Valentino - Camouflage-Print Leather Sneakers
7//  Stella McCartney - Faux Metallic Leather Platform
8//  Rag & Bone - Kent Leather PlatformHigh-top
9//  Prada - Patent Leather-Lace-Up

Have you made a splurge for a designer pair of sneakers?

ROOMS THAT INSPIRE

Did everyone enjoy the weekend?  I pretty much remained low key for most of the weekend.  Did a little clothes shopping and started getting little gifts for the Christmas holidays (yeah, I'm going to try and start early).

On the home front, Mr. D was busy cleaning all our windows and screens (isn't he the best).  They are spotless and streak-free.  I was busy washing and steaming some curtains in the guest room.

Switching things up for you this Monday with a new series I'd like to call: Rooms that Inspire.  I'm always inspired by interior design and decorating; or simply admiring.  There are many different styles that inspire me to incorporate a similar look to our home.  And, it doesn't have to be big purchases or big items.  A simple throw pillow, accessory or color palette, inspire me to create my own design.

Check out this week's room inspiration:

While I'm not a fan of the paint color, the front door and Cambria quartz floor with contrasting inlay is beautiful.

Designer Jane Lockhart

This room has me at a standstill.  I love the way the designer incorporated darker shades to this dining room area, balancing it with the white and taupe.  It's a mix of traditional and contemporary.  While the wall color is dark, the room is fresh and light.

Wall color:  Benjamin Moore Iron Mountain
For those loving the look of black and white, here's an entrance room to admire.  I love the trim paneling on this wall; adding architectural interest.

I'm a huge fan of wallpaper and love the scale and color of this one, perfectly done in this powder room.  Makes a big impact in this small space.

What a sophisticated and cozy room; love the different textures in this space.  The color palette is elegant, soft and calm.

Wall color:  Benjamin Moore, Revere Pewter (which I have in my home and love)

NARCISO and SPECIAL DEDICATION POST: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

Today's post is a special dedication to my mom.  Today is her birthday.  Although I'm not able to be there personally to help celebrate, I know she's not alone.  She's with my sister and loved ones.

I mailed her gift but it did get in there in time (so sorry).  So, while she can't open her present on her actual birthday, she has something to look forward to.  The gift I gave was a new perfume by her favorite, Narciso Rodriguez.  My mom has been wearing Narciso for a few years now.  That is "her signature scent".  She loves his perfume!  I think she has purchased everyone of his fragrances.  So, for her birthday this year, I was able to purchase Narciso Rodriguez's new signature fragrance, NARCISO, in collaboration with Bloomingdales.  And, the surprise was, I was able to meet Narciso last week, to have him personally sign a bottle for my mom.  I wish my mom could have met him; but she lives too far from NYC now.

Last Wednesday evening, I headed to Bloomingdales on 59th Street to pick up my presale fragrance purchase.  I only found out the news of him being there the day before.  While the event started at 6:00 p.m. I was there an hour early.  I wanted to make sure I was one of the few first in line, so I can make my bus back home to New Jersey.  I was fourth in line and we waited a little over an hour.  As soon as the crowds down below, started cheering and clapping, I new it was time.  How exciting!  It's so funny, after waiting on line and getting tired, the adrenaline started as soon as I saw his face.  Thoughts started flowing in my head . . . don't drop the bottle, don't be nervous, what do I say . . .

The young girls working the lines at Bloomingdales were so helpful and friendly.  They said, are you ready?  Like we were walking down the runway or something (ha-ha).  With my iphone in my hand and perfume bottle in the other, I was ready as I'll ever be.  They were gracious enough to take pictures with my iphone and hold my bags.

It was my turn!  I said, hello, "This is for my mother, Helga.  It's a birthday present and she loves your perfume.  She only wears your perfume!"  He smiled and replied, well tell your mother, thank you and I am grateful.  Then, the young woman, with my phone, said, okay, ready for a photo?  I said, yes.  My mother is going to die! LOL.  Now, how to pose . . . can I touch him?  It happened so fast.  Then, I shook his hand and said, it was a pleasure meeting you and thank you.  He thanked me.

I gathered my belongings and headed down the stairs.  Wow!  How cool was that.  I just met Narciso Rodriguez.  Damn!  Why didn't I buy a bottle of perfume for myself.  But, this was not for me; it was for my mother, that's why.

So, mom, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  Wishing you many happy blessings on your day.  I love you dearly. Here's your gift until you can open the real thing in person.

Display at Bloomingdales 59th Street

Here is the description of the new fragrance:

The designer's signature, a heart of musk, is surrounded by elegant woody notes of vetiver and cedar paired with ultra-feminine accords of Bulgarian rose and gardenia to create a seductive fragrance that lingers and endures.

This is where he smiled when I said, my mom only wears your perfume!

I adore the bottle and packaging!  It matches the décor in my home office (lol)

The new fragrance is lovely and I hope you love your gift mom!

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Note:  So, it's Thursday night for me, as I'm writing this post and dealing with an upset stomach.  I hate feeling sick; it takes so much out of me.  Going to push through this quick post and then head to bed.

Another week completed . . . Yay!  I hope everyone had a good week.  Even though I was busy at work, the days seemed to drag

This weekend I'll be working on my "to do" items around the house.  On Sunday, my mom will be celebrating her birthday.  Sorry I won't be there but I'm hoping she'll enjoy the special gift I'm sending her way.

To end the work week, here are some of my snapshots on instagram (@joann3373).

Beautiful Sunday afternoon; perfect for blogging outside.

My Wardrobe Wednesday look from Zara

All about Narciso Wednesday night at Bloomingdales 59th Street, NYC

New Narciso fragrance exclusive to Bloomies (I think for the first 6 months)

Lucky me to have met him Mr. Rodriguez in person. There was an older woman (senior citizen age), who was first in line (I was the 4th) who hugged and kissed him.  I had to laugh because she is Hispanic (as am I) and I knew that was her nature.  He was so gracious and embraced her right back; such a nice man.  I only had the guts to shake his hand (LOL)!  Could you believe the two women in front of me didn't want to have their picture taken with him.  Were they intimated? Scared? Shy?  I, on the other hand, didn't hesitate (lol).  We all waited over an hour on line . . . I guess we all had our moment (in our own way).  But my thinking was . . . When will I ever have an opportunity like this again?  And, he was so nice! Thanks to the ladies at Bloomies who took the picture for me.  They even held my bags!

I'll share more of my experience and talk about his new scent in another post.

WARDBROBE WEDNESDAY: My Look from Zara

Happy Hump Day!  Today's look is from Zara.  Call it my "holding onto Summer" look.  The weather is comfortable on the east coast, with temperatures holding in the 70s; with the mornings and evenings being much cooler.  So, while I'm missing the warmer temperatures, I'm enjoying this type of weather as well.

I adore this beautiful light, bright, floral and flowing top.  You can create a different look than the one I create below by pairing it with your favorite skinny jeans or a pair of tapered trousers.  If your looking for a more causal look, instead of heels, you can wear with your favorite flats.

1// Combination Printed top
2// Perforated Messenger Bag
3// Asymmetric Leather Court shoe
4// Medium Rise Skinny Fit Jeans

ALTUZARRA FOR TARGET

Over the weekend, while watching some television, I happened to catch the Target commercial, advertising the new clothing line by Altuzarra.

Can you guess what came next?  Yup, me jumping on the computer to see more (lol).  I'll give you a heads up right now . . . most, if not all of the items are sold out (ugh).  But, here are some of my favorites:

This is a nice classic black dress.  You can accessorize it with a skinny belt to add some interest to the, all black dress.

Peasant Dress Swiss Dot Black
Tuxedo pants for women are always a plus!  Tapered and sexy.
Tuxedo Ankle Pant
Satin Cami set with mask (love the mask)

Love the lines of this blazer.  Looks like a great cut.

This blouse is on my wish list.  Love it!

INSPIRATION COLOR OF THE WEEK: SILVER

Here we are again . . . Monday; the beginning of the work week.  The most hated day of the week (for those of us to have to work on Mondays).  Well, I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.  Yesterday was a beautiful day in New Jersey; perfect temperature.  I wish we had more days like that.  Mr. D and I enjoyed a dinner out with friends, Saturday night.  We ate at a popular barbeque place called Bailey's Smokehouse in Blauvelt, NY.  This place was packed and the food was a-ma-zing!  Definitely worth going back again!

Let's get this week started with today's Inspiration Color of the Week:  Silver.  It seemed only right to talk about silver since last week's color was gold (lol).  Even though gold tones have been making a comeback, silver is still strong.

Take a look at some inspirational photos where silver tones were incorporated in some amazing room designs and fashion looks.

Loving the silver colored wallpaper in this dining room, along with the silver accent lamps and nail head trim on these tufted chairs.

Taking center stage in this bathroom is the gorgeous silver, free standing tub!  The silver beveled mirror is the crown in this space.  Bubble bath anyone?

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Want to shout it from the rooftops . . . THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY!!!

I'm so relieved to have made it through the work week (with a bad back and all).  Happy to report, I am finally getting some relief.  And, for as much pain I was in, I pushed through the crazy work week.  I find myself sighing a lot to help me get through the stressful day (lol).

Any plans for the weekend?  Mr. D and I are just going to hang with our local Jersey friends, for a dinner night out.  Should be fun!  I'm looking forward to socializing and enjoying an evening out.  The remainder of the weekend, I'm going to take it easy, and work on my "to do list for Fall".  Sad to think the summer is winding down and the holidays are around the corner.

To end the work week, here are some of my snapshots on instagram (@joann3373).

9/11 Remembrance  (image source).  Will never forget that day.  Worked downtown and saw the twin towers come down in front of my eyes.  Remember that warm summer day, walking home from NYC to Brooklyn, with thousands of others, trying to get home to be with their loved ones.

Have a great weekend everyone!
